Singapore Biennale 2006

Originated from Venice, The Biennale ("Bin-Na-Lay") is an art exhibition held every two years. This year the first Singapore Biennale features works of more than 95 artists and artists collectives from over 38 countries and regions including Singapore.

The Biennale is one of the gestures which our government puts up to impress the IMF Delegates, to show the world that we can be rather efficient in putting up a front cosmopolitan in arts too.

A wide publicity of the event was put up, until i cannot tahan so i dragged Ting along. Aiya actually its because we sang finish Kbox, got nothing better to do then went to see see look look.






We thought of sneaking into the museums without paying and then we were caught, then being extorted $5 each for the ticket. BELIEF is the theme for Singapore's first visual arts biennale and God knows why they chose that word, must be something to do with future ah blabla shit. I mean i sorta understand why its called Belief instead of erm.... Be-Thin or Be-Funny or or Be-Quick-especially-when-the-other-mahjong-players-are-waiting-for-you-to-discard-your-goddamn-tile.






By the way this $5 ticket enables you to visit the above 4 venues in the picture any day until 12th Nov. U don't have to visit all 4 places in one day, you can take your time. However you are only entitled a single entry for each venue.

Our first stop was the National Museum of Singapore(NMS) beside the YMCA and that was my first visit.





Oh Cartier! There is a Cartier exhibition going on.






The first artefact we came across was this huge plastic tent which can hold up to thirty people, in a huge black room. Then there are blinking lights which was accompanied by robotic sounds 'teet-teet-teet' all the way.





We went into the giant tent and took some pictures. All of a sudden, there was a bang and the blinking dotted lights turned into blinking 'meteor-rain' lights accompanied by those electrical voltage sounds 'zzz-zzz-zzz'.







It certainly freaked both our asses out coz we were the only ones in the dark quiet room. We started to have silly thoughts that the tent might be damaged because it was too high-tech and very sensitive to phone cameras.

Then we scurried out proceeded with grace to the other big black rooms and we even caught a mini documentary film about Convicts on Death Row and their last supper.

If you thought of catching a glimpse of the famous Mona Lisa, works of Picasso and other great artists, get a life man. This is Singapore, we are talking about - we only have Laksa and Esso. You want Da Vinci and Van Gogh, then fly to Louvre.

Our next stop was the Singapore Arts Museum (SAM) and that was my 4th visit. This place showcases works mainly from China, India and South-East Asia.
